Top Assistive Technology for 2019 – from Segway to Lamborghini!

Assistive Technology (AT) allows a person to become independent in the home, school, and community. AT has great benefits for people with disabilities. In the UK, it is thought that some seven million people of working age have a disability, which all adds up to an awful lot of spending power. This is known as the “purple pound” and is reckoned to be worth around £249bn to the economy. In this video, actor David Proud take us on trip around Naidex to highlight his top picks of the exhibition. Naidex is Europe’s most comprehensive disability and independent living event for trade, healthcare professionals and end-users. Taking place at Birmingham’s NEC, Naidex gathers innovation, information, suppliers, and inspirational speakers from around the world, over the two day event. The assistive technology examples that David has picked range from wheelchair attachments and technologies to wheelchair accessible motorhomes. Featured Assistive Technology: Addseat (Segway Wheelchair) The Segway wheelchair creates a new level of mobility allowing you to reach places that in a normal wheelchair would be exhausting. The gyro wheelchair is designed for comfort on a durable chassis that is built to last. This Segway wheelchair enables the user to sit higher, making a conversation with a standing person much more pleasant. EasyStand Glider The EasyStand Glider features state-of-the-art active standing technology. Active standing provides lower body range of motion and upper body strengthening. Unlike passive standers, users move the handles with their arms which creates a reciprocal movement in the legs. Adjustable resistance cylinders allow the user and therapist to start with minimal resistance and tailor make an active standing programme to the right strength levels. This Standing Frame is used throughout spinal cord, stoke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and other neurological rehabilitation departments. Carbon Black II (Wheelchair) Described as the ultimate lightweight wheelchair the Carbon Black II is a sleek and simple design with minimal material resulting in an incredibly light but supportive backrest. Weighing in at under 600g, it is one of the lightest on the market. It’s 327mm wide and only 254mm tall, coupled with height and angle adjusting quick-release mount. Myosuit The Myosuit is a wearable robotic garment suit designed to help in your everyday life. It’s an added layer of muscle that supports your movements, providing stability as you get up from a chair, go up and down a flight of stairs, or stand. The Myosuit is tailored to people with mobility impairments, helping them to get more out of their functional rehabilitation training & therapy. It is an innovative and efficient training solution for Rehabilitation clinics and Physiotherapy studios. SmartCRUTCH SmartCRUTCH™ is Engineered with Robust and Durable Materials. Only weighing 990 grams per crutch it has ergonomically designed grips to suit the natural wrist and hand positions in a neutral state; Left and Right hand.
